INTERROGATION DAYS

(Complete Edition)

by RM Haines

The book brings together in one volume three different chapbooks first published here in 2022—Civil Society, Dysnomia, and Interrogation Days—and includes a section of new poetry as well.

The poems focus on American power and imperialism in the first decades of the 21st century. They begin by thinking about the “War on Terror,” interrogation & torture, the CIA, & the psychic miasma of the Bush II years. They then extend into the Obama and Trump eras, addressing drone warfare, police violence, & encroaching fascism. A new section responds to the genocide in Gaza and traces a disastrous continuity across these three decades.

Informed by the Sufi idea of the heart as seat of imagination, the poems struggle with the role of poetry as a world-creating activity in an age of warfare and state violence. (63 pp. / Oct. 13 2024)
